Nigerian author, Tomi Adeyemi, may have just scored one of the biggest deals ever!! She is the author of the famous and awardwinning novel, Children of Blood and Bone. The novel was a major hit as people across the world fell in love with it.
Tomi Adeyemi is a novelist, creative writing coach and author. She wrote her first novel at the tender age of 5. She is now a #1 NY Times and International Bestselling Author and her work is loved by many.
Tomi Adeyemi’s first novel, Children of Blood and Bone was released in March 2018. The explicit excellence of the book landed it on the No. 1 spot on the New York Times Young Adult Hardcover Bestseller List.
Earlier in March 2017, Fox 2000 bought the film adaptation rights to the book. It was reported that the deal for the film rights was about seven figures!!!!! Now, Deadline reported that Tomi Adeyemi’s “Children of Blood and Bone” will be produced as a Disney movie under Lucasfilm. This will be another great movie to be released by Lucasfilm after Star Wars and Indiana Jones in 2012.
Kay Oyegun, writer of This is us and Queen Sugar, is set to come on board as the writer of the new script adaptation for the award-winning novel. Kay will also work in collaboration with Rick Famuyinwa, the director of upcoming film. Other producers such as; John Fischer, Marty Bowen, Karen Rosenfelt and Isaac Klausner will also be part of the project.
The novel centers around a young woman named Zelie Adebola (the protagonist). She fearlessly fought the monarchy for the ownership rights of magic for her people.
When Tomi was asked about the book, she said, “I wanted to write a fantasy novel set in West Africa so that “a little black girl” would pick up my book one day and see herself as the star. I want her to know that she’s beautiful and she matters and can have a crazy magical adventure even if an ignorant part of the world tells her she can never be Hermione Granger”.
Children of Blood and Bone also received the Andre Norton Award for Young Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy in 2018. In addition, the book was enlisted on the finalists’ block for the 2019 Lodestar Award for Best Young Adult Book.
Tomi Adeyemi’s second and upcoming novel, Children of Virtue and Vengeance is set to be released by December 2019.
